The Paradox

The weight of the world

Is in the weight of words

What are the words worth?

The weight of the whole?

The depth of your soul?

Truth be told

Words that are bold

Words that are weaponized

To have and to hold

My church your church no church

My  body your body no body

Is what we tell ourselves

The same as what the world is telling us?

The same as what is compelling us?

We see what we want to see

And believe what we want to believe

Despite the divergent nature

Of what our eyes will capture

And what our minds have pictured

Your story my story horror story

Her truth his truth any truth

Opposing sentiments

What was said

Conflicting cognizance

Unconscious thread

Contradict all evidence

The screams echo in my head

Make it MAKE SENSE

Hypocrisy is a stain on our consciousness

Hypocrisy is a strain on our consciousness

Construction of opinions

Designed to get your attention

Witnesses to destruction of independent thought

Anticipate the stalwart onslaught

The construction of powerful words

By powerful Men

Build the Wall

Again

A wall of words

We are assaulted by declarations

Promises of salvation

But clearly lost in translation

Screens full mouths full ears full

Impossible to discern any truth

His truth her truth no truth

Turn of phrase

Turn the page

Turn your head

Look away, make your bed

Who stands up for integrity

Do you simply post to display your social dignity

Reduced to conformity

Bereft of all sincerity

Disguising your complicity

As virtue

Signaling your purity

Accepting no responsibility

For the shared created disparity

Her truth his truth no truth at all

Choose joy, be kind

Choose your t-shirt so designed

Treat others as if

They didn’t steal your place in line

But if that’s your perception

You can set up camp as exemption

Us versus them

Just another mechanism

Limitless words

Test the limits of our intelligence

Phrases forged in fury

And self-righteous indignation

Will neither pave the way for

Conversation nor reconciliation

We have come to excuse

We have come to abuse

We have come to pardon

Words that reveal our humanity

Words that conceal our humanity

Words that belittle bemoan besmirch

Words on the edge

Spoken with a sledge-

Hammer home the point

Over and over and over

And over

Again

Words that are just this side of decent

Words that are complacent

Words get dressed up

In their Sunday best- up

To their ears in pretty packaging and bows

Light up the stage, put on a show

We argue semantics

And are reduced to pedantics

The picture that’s larger

Is the words are a harbinger

If I tolerate your intolerance

Does that not also

Make me intolerant?
